WHAT KITCHEN AND BATH TRENDS EMERGED IN 2021?

Siteline Cabinetry

The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) recently released its Design Trends study in 2021. Here are the top 10 key design takeaways from this report, and how you can integrate Siteline Cabinetry.

1. Multi-purpose spaces

A kitchen is not just for cooking, but a place to eat, entertain and socialize. In smaller homes, there’s not always a separate dining space. Don’t have a home office? A work-from-home setup in the kitchen is more and more common. How can you make your space multi-functional? Adding built-in units for storage, storing more inside doors and drawers, making sure each cabinet has a purpose.

2. Larger kitchens

It’s no surprise that a larger kitchen is on most homeowners’ wish lists.  The more we are at home, the more our spaces are being used. Not all spaces can accommodate large kitchens but there are other tricks of the trade to make your kitchen feel bigger. Taking cabinets all the way up to the ceiling, adding a peninsula or island, and maximizing space inside each cabinet are just a few ways to make your space feel larger.

3. Outdoor spaces

Natural and green elements bring the outdoors, indoors. Nature is the main source of inspiration, creating harmony between your home and Mother Nature through the balance of natural colors, textures, and sheens. Create your outdoor/indoor space with a mix and match of Siteline’s finish and material palettes.

4. Changes in style

Traditional kitchens have been a mainstay in the top three styles up until last year and is now tenth. Homeowners are now preferring an organic and natural style, which moved from ninth to third. Contemporary and transitional designs are first and second, respectively.  Siteline offers a wide variety of natural and textured materials so you can design your organic haven.

5. Shades of white, blue and black

Homeowners still prefer white and off-white by 47% of those surveyed. Why? Cabinetry in a neutral color is great for resale. Beige and blues are coming on stronger by 25%, but black seems to be the latest hot trend, especially for cabinetry. Consider a two-tone tuxedo look, with white or off-white surrounding cabinets and a black island.

6. Increased technology

How do we stay connected in times like these? Devices such as smartphones, tablets and home assistants are a mainstay in almost every household. Video communication has become paramount for a work-from-home or hybrid work situation.

What else can be upgraded? Automated vertical lift-up doors, servo cabinets (especially for waste or recycling cabinets). This also might include specially made cabinets for televisions, speakers, and monitors.

7. Larger showers

A recent shift for homeowners is the removal of tubs, allowing for larger walk-in showers. 60% of those surveyed opted to change their primary bathroom layout to accommodate this.

8. Bathroom oasis

If you can’t go to the spa, make your own spa! Homeowners are adding bidets, smart toilets, and upgraded shower heads to create their own slice of paradise, all without leaving their home.

9. Aging in place features

As you age, you want your home to grow with you. Instead of reaching above or inside, have items in cabinets pull forward or down towards you. Siteline offers many internal accessories, like roll out shelving or servo-drive cabinets to make this transition seamless.

10. Minimalism

Does it spark joy? Being in our homes has taught us less can be more. Not only is it pleasing to the eye, but everything has a purpose. By storing things inside cabinets in a smart and functional way, it’s easy to create a clutter-free space.

The last two years have shifted home design in more ways than we can imagine. Read more about these trends highlighted by the NKBA here.
